It is with great sadness that the IFOM scientific community mourns the premature loss of Professor Gordon McVie, an international authority on Cancer treatment and research.
After many years of experience as Clinical Director first of CRC in the UK and then NKI in the Netherlands, Gordon joined IEO as the adviser to Umberto Veronesi and founding editor of the open access cancer journal Ecancermedicalscience. Along his scientific activity - with over 300 peer-reviewed papers, editorials and books - and advisory consultancy to top science institutes worldwide, recently Gordon supported IFOM in developing its clinical strategies as member of IFOM Scientific Advisory Board. Gordon had an incredible talent in spotting cutting edge clinical research and in promoting the right people. And he was a real gentlemen in every sense of the word.
Many things we’ve shared in these years and many we were planning to do in the future. We will miss his fresh and smart vision and his huge energy, a great example for us all.
We offer sincerest condolences to his beloved wife Claudia, to all the friends and colleagues whose lives and careers were touched by Gordon’s wisdom and influence.
