We seek for our Institute: Science Editor
IFOM is seeking a Science Editor to support the Scientific Director and the Institute Faculty in strategic and editorial documentation. The position will report directly to the Scientific Director. This role combines high-level scientific writing with content creation, serving as a bridge between cutting-edge cancer research and effective written materials across multiple platforms and audiences.
We are looking for a resource with at least 5 years years of scientific writing experience with scientific journals as author, reviewer or editor or, eventually editor in academic, pharmaceutical or research institute settings.
Candidate will be responsible for:
Strategic Writing & Editorial Support
- Draft, edit, and refine grant proposals, ensuring compelling narratives that align with funding priorities;
- Support strategic project documents and institutional reports that position IFOM as a leader in molecular oncology;
- Support the Scientific Direction and Faculty in the presentations and pitch materials for leadership, funding bodies, and collaborative partners;
- Collaborate on writing and editing scientific contents for IFOM's website and intranet platforms, socials, reports and editorial products developing research highlights, news articles, and feature stories that translate complex research for diverse audiences;
Collaborative & Strategic Functions
- Work closely with cross-functional figures and teams (Scientific Officer, Technology Transfer Office-Legal Office, Facilities Coordinator & Support Manager, Grants Office, Corporate Communications Office) on content development, messaging alignment on strategic projects and professional Ita-Eng translation of scientific contents;
- Collaborate on monitoring emerging trends in cancer research and identifying strategic opportunities on grants and institutional collaborations;
- Support stakeholder engagement materials for funding bodies, academic partners, and industry collaborators;
Qualification
- Proven track record in grant writing with successful funding outcomes;
- Previous experience in Science Editorial, research; institute or biotech/pharma environment. Experience in cancer area will be considered a plus;
- Familiarity with intellectual property and patent application processes will be considered a plus;
- Familiarity with clinical trial documentation and regulatory writing will be considered a plus;
- Background in content strategy and digital publishing for scientific organizations;
Education
Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences, Oncology, Molecular Biology, or related field. Strong foundation in cancer research and molecular mechanisms (e.g. solid publication track-record);
Languages: Bilingual capabilities (Italian/English);
Soft Skills
- Excellent writing abilities - capable of adapting style for technical, clinical, and lay audiences;
- Strategic thinking with ability to identify key messages and positioning opportunities;
- Project management skills with experience handling multiple deadlines and stakeholders;
- Editorial experience with scientific publications, preferably in oncology or related fields;
- Collaborative mindset with excellent interpersonal skills;
- Attention to detail with strong proofreading and fact-checking capabilities;
