Technology Transfer Office

“Understanding cancer. The way to cure it.” is the founding principle of research made in IFOM, focusing on the study of the molecular mechanisms underlying tumor formation and development.

To rapidly transfer its research results from bench to bedside, IFOM relies on both the Experimental Therapeutics Program to develop drug candidates and the Technology Transfer Office to forge partnerships with the pharmaceutical industry and venture capital funds to develop and commercialize products and services that can have a positive impact on patients.

The IFOM Technology Transfer Office is in charge of identifying and protecting IFOM’s most promising results for industrial applications deriving from its research programs, and of finding suitable partners for further development through:

• Scouting for inventions:
• identify inventions arising from research activities of the principal investigators;
• collaborate with them to build a development plan; and
• assess the market potential of the invention.
• Intellectual property management:
• assess patentability of new inventions;
• draft, file, prosecute, and manage patents; and
• register trademarks and copyrights.
• Business Development:
• market IFOM programs and research capabilities;
• identify possible partner companies;
• structure, negotiate and close research collaborations and license agreements with industrial partners; and
• create start-up companies with accelerator and venture capital funds.

Furthermore, the Technology Transfer Office encourages interactions of IFOM researchers with companies and provides education and advice to IFOM researchers who are interested in translating their inventions into innovations for the benefit of patients.
