About the Position
IFOM ETS, the AIRC Institute of Molecular Oncology in Milan, Italy, is seeking a highly motivated and talented Manager of Bioinformatics Unit.
The role will set up an internationally competitive computational core unit for *omics data analysis. The IFOM Bioinformatics Unit will support researchers in the analysis and interpretation of DNA or RNA data from next generation sequencing (NGS) and third-generation sequencing, and also proteomics methods. Moreover, the Unit will develop custom methods and pipelines to allow IFOM researchers to answer their biological question with innovative computational approaches.
Responsibilities
The IFOM Bioinformatics Unit will provide support the institute with internationally competitive workflows and analyses, and will offer training for to junior staff, PhD students or researchers who want to approach this discipline.
In particular, the Manager of the Unit will:
- Support IFOM research groups in the planning, analysis and interpretation of multi-omics experiments;
- Advance the state of the art in computational biology of the institute by integrating research results and innovative solutions in bioinformatics methods and application development;
- Set-up pipelines and methods for multi-omics big data analysis;
- Develop novel bioinformatics approaches and tools;
- Contribute to computer science education and training of junior staff/students;
- Support IFOM researchers in paper and grant writing.
Qualifications
Hard skills:
- Proficiency in bioinformatics analysis and integration of genetics and multi-omics data (bulk and single cell) by NGS and third-generation sequencing technologies (e.g.; Oxford Nanopore);
- Established ability in development and implementing bioinformatic capabilities and pipelines
- Experience in programming (Python, R, or other)
- Experience in biostatistics
- Experience in using scientific computing platforms based on Linux systems

Educational experience
Bachelor/PhD degree in a relevant subject, e.g., computational biology, computer science, engineering, (bio)informatics or similar.
